Immergas sets out its position on ETS2 in residential heating
Immergas has addressed the possible impact of the European Union’s ETS2 emissions-trading mechanism on residential heating. At an industry meeting in Rome, company representatives examined how carbon pricing could affect household costs and stressed that the energy transition must be aligned with realistic technical options.
What ETS2 changes
ETS2 extends emissions pricing to fuels used for heating buildings. Although the obligation applies to fuel suppliers, the additional cost may ultimately influence household energy bills. Families in older, less efficient buildings may therefore face a greater financial impact.
Immergas supports the objective of reducing emissions but argues that implementation should reflect the condition of the building stock and the investment capacity of households. A single technology cannot be installed in every property because space, electrical infrastructure and initial costs differ widely.
Keeping several technical pathways available
The company favours evaluating heat pumps, factory-made hybrid systems, efficient condensing equipment and appliances compatible with future renewable gases as complementary options. The most appropriate transition path should be selected for each building.
Reducing heat loss, selecting the correct output, improving temperature control and modernising systems in stages can also cut consumption. New equipment delivers its expected performance only when it is properly designed, installed and commissioned.
Practical implications for consumers
The ETS2 debate shows that future heating decisions should not be based on purchase price alone. Annual consumption, building condition, service availability and access to different energy carriers must be considered together.
Azerbaijan is not directly covered by the EU mechanism, but the policy influences the product and technology strategies of European manufacturers. The development of efficient, flexible and future-ready equipment is relevant to customers in every market.
